Pet Vaccinations

Pet Vaccinations

At Animates Vetcare, vaccinations are recommended as an essential part of your pet’s preventative health care, protecting them from serious and potentially fatal diseases.

Help keep your pet safe from infectious diseases by maintaining the vaccination programme tailored for them by your Animates Vetcare team.

Puppies & kittens

At Animates Vetcare we follow globally accepted vaccination guidelines which are tailored for each pet and their individual risk of disease.

A typical vaccination schedule for both puppies and kittens starts with their first vaccination at 8-9 weeks of age. Subsequent vaccinations are given at 3-4 week intervals until the puppy or kitten is at least 16 weeks old.

Puppy vaccines will cover diseases including distemper, hepatitis, parvovirus, and parainfluenza. Your veterinarian may also recommend vaccinating against leptospirosis and canine cough. Canine cough vaccination reduces the risk of infection, however may not completely prevent your dog from picking up canine cough as it can be caused by a range of bacteria and viruses.

Kitten vaccinations provide protection against feline respiratory disease (‘cat flu’) and feline panleukopenia.

Adult dog - booster vaccinations

12 months after your dog’s final puppy vaccination another booster vaccine is required, to ensure long-term immunity against infectious diseases.

From there, your veterinarian will determine the most suitable ongoing vaccination programme for your dog, with vaccinations given every 1-3 years.

An annual health check is always recommended.

An annual canine cough vaccination is mandatory for all dogs attending doggy daycare or kennels.

Adult cat - booster vaccinations

Cats also require booster vaccinations to ensure long-term immunity against infectious diseases, with the first given 12 months after the final kitten vaccination.

From there, your veterinarian, in consultation with you, will determine your feline friend’s long-term vaccine programme based on your cat’s lifestyle and environment.

If you have missed a vaccination please seek advice from your veterinarian as your pet may need an additional booster to maintain adequate cover.
